What is Prototyping?

Students began their year exploring the STEM Lab and investigating what it means to prototype. Following the rules and expectations, each class was challenged to turn an ordinary pencil into an animal. In order to prototype something, students pointed out that you have to follow the Design Thinking Process to ideate and plan before you begin building.

As students began designing they found it challenging to not only manipulate the prototyping supplies into an animal, but also to make sure they utilized the pencil and collaborated effectively with their partner. In the end, we ended up with a lot of giraffes, a few elephants, some sharks, cats, dogs, birds, butterflies, dragonflies, alligators, spiders, and many more creative creations! Students learned that prototyping may be a bit difficult, but can be lots of fun!
