Timberline 8th Graders Speak at State Level Conferences

STEM School

Six Timberline 8th grade students, their language arts teachers Ms. McIntyre and Ms. Hoelzer, and the college and career readiness counselor, Ms. March, led a session at the Colorado School Counselors Association conference on November 6, 2014. The session was titled "A Culture Imagined, Exploration Believed in, Pathway Achieved: Career Guidance in Middle School". The teachers and counselor spoke about the strong partnership they had and how they combined language arts standards with the counseling goals of career planning to create a year-long project for 8th graders to prepare for high school and beyond. The eighth graders spoke about their Individual and Career Academic Plans (ICAPs) and how much more aware they are of future options and how to prepare for them as a result of the collaboration between their teachers and the counselor. The session was such a huge success that the group has been invited to share their work at the Colorado Department of Education's first annual ICAP award ceremony on December 3, 2014.
