Third Grade Students Present to City Council Members

Third grade students in Mrs. Tatum, Ms. Anderson, and Mrs. Sekich's classes studied local government as part of their Social Studies standards.  They were given the task of trying to come up with solutions to a problem Longmont is currently facing.  After some research, the problem they decided to tackle was vandalism.  Through news videos and newspaper articles, students learned about vandalism in our city.  Then, each class went through the Design Thinking process to come up with prototypes of solutions to the problem.  We were very excited to be able to present the prototypes to Mayor Dennis Coombs, and City Council members Polly Christensen and Joan Peck.  The real world connections made this a valuable learning experience for our students.
