Robots were the buzz at the VEX IQ Robotics Competition Saturday January 24, 2015. TimberlinePK8 is one of the first Title I schools in SVVSD to start and compete in this competition thanks to the Race to the Top grant from the US Department of Education. Our school had 4 teams of 3rd - 5th graders collaborating together to create a robot that they could drive and program. There were 3 areas of the competition that the students had to prepare for: working with another team to get as many points as possible in one minute, individual team driving of the robot, and talking to the judges about their journey of making the robot. All the students did an excellent job for their first time at the competition. One of the schools teams received the judges award and another team placed 3rd out of the 30 participating teams. The day was a success for all students and their families. SVVSD's next competition is Saturday February 7, 2015 and the teams are starting to prep for it.
