Innovation Academy 2015 a great success!

Innovation Academy 2015 marks the 5th year of the academy’s existence. Innovation Academy started as a brainstorm between SVVSD and IBM, where we invite students to innovate alongside professional engineers in an engaging, free-thinking environment. As the program developed, and the foundations of our inquiry-based instruction strengthened, we began seeing amazing shifts in students’ thinking, dispositions, and creations, and heard more and more students asking ‘why can’t school be more like this’? Because we agree, we are increasingly working with teachers to transfer the guiding principles behind innovation academy into our schools and into our classrooms.

Innovation Academy takes place during 2 sessions over the course of three weeks. Our first session includes rising 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders, while our second session includes rising 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. All students had an amazing time learning at IBM their first week and at Skyline their second week. At IBM, students were able to work alongside professional engineers, SVVSD educators, High school volunteers, and high school Innovation Center workers to maximize their experience and introduction to IA's Smarter Themes. Read more about our themes at blogs.svvsd.org/innovationacademy.

A sincere thanks to IBM faculty as well as to St Vrain administrators and educators for helping us to continue this amazing program!
