Hawk Air Ocean was truly amazing! We are so proud of our PreK-5th grade students and all the design thinking they have done since October to help solve the many issues our ocean faces.
The Hawk Air Ocean journey could not have happened without the help of our fantastic partners: Hygiene PTO and parent volunteers, Ocean First Institute, Innovation Brokers, OtterBox, NCAR/UCAR, TinkerMill, and Dr. Paddy Ryan. We can't thank you enough!
Our students' ocean themed art is traveling around Longmont and the surrounding area. Thank you OtterBox, Proto's Pizzeria Napoletana, and Dr. Jason Kaminski for showcasing our students' beautiful mosaic reliefs. These beautiful mosaics will be displayed at the District Art Show from and will also be spotlighted at the Longmont Museum on for Earth Day.
Our students have begun to take real actions for ocean conservation. Two fifth graders traveled to Longmont Estates and Fall River to share our students' solutions for protecting marine life and the ocean. One fourth grader's family was inspired by the work going on at Hygiene and organized a beach cleanup when they visited their families in Hawaii. In addition, our first graders designed bookmarks and whale tail necklaces to raise over $500 to adopt a whale through the Pacific Whale Foundation. Our students have become ambassadors for the ocean and we couldn't be prouder!
A special shout out to our Hygiene teachers for facilitating this design thinking in their classrooms since October. Our students are exemplifying what STEAM looks like in action!
