Superintendent's Update - October 2017

Dear St. Vrain Valley Community,

It has been an outstanding start to the academic year and I want to thank our students, families, teachers, staff and other partners for continuing to support St. Vrain Valley Schools’ drive for excellence in serving our community and advancing public education.

Muggle Magic at Longmont Estates!

Students in grades 3-5 had an opportunity to try their wands with some Muggle Magic during the September late start.  Presented by CU Discovery, students took part in a "potions" class and learned about chemistry and magic that surrounds us everyday.  They got up close and personal with "extenuo"--quicksand, "solido"--troll boogers, and "evanesco"--dissappearing fluids.  It was a great way to make literature come alive through science!

2017 Eclipse Safety and Parent Information

Eclipse Safety Checklist

It’s not the eclipse that is dangerous to observe, it’s the sun! The sun’s visible (and invisible) rays can cause serious damage to the sensitive tissues of the eyes, often without being immediately aware of it. Normally, our common sense protects us from looking directly at the sun for more than a second.

Hygiene Elementary Hawk Air Event 2017

Hawk Air Ocean was truly amazing!  We are so proud of our PreK-5th grade students and all the design thinking they have done since October to help solve the many issues our ocean faces.

The Great Space Escape Comes to Longmont Estates

Earlier this year, 40 students in grades K-5 participated in our 2nd Annual Innovation Fair.  Because of their participation, they were invited to join us for the Great Space Escape!  The Denver Museum of Nature and Science brought a 20+ foot tall inflatable dome which serves as a traveling planetarium.  Students got up close and personal with stars, constellations, and planets!  They learned the story of how Cassiopeia was put up into the night sky, took a tour of Europa, and zoomed out of the Milky Way galaxy.
