Fall River Family STEM Night a Success!

STEM School

On March 5th, 2015, Fall River hosted its 2nd Family STEM night. Over 150 people attended and participated in STEM stations that included design challenges taken from STEM units, engineering games, and robotics demonstrations!  An addition to this year's event was the "Hall of STEM Parents". Parents who work in STEM fields volunteered their time and expertise to share aspects of their jobs with the Fall River community. Parents represented Ball Aerospace and Technologies, Corp., Google, The City of Longmont, Boulder Environmental Sciences and Technology, YouSeeU Educational Technology, Noble Energy, US Bank, and Terumo BCT. STEM parents provided hands-on activities and demonstrations to help inspire our students at Fall River! Famiies were inspired, too! The parents provided connections to the world of STEM occupations, plus gave the students fun things to see and do.

Members of the STEM student leadership teams assisted with the set up for our guests, as well as setting up the rooms for the other STEM stations. They also acted as hosts when families arrived, helped them find the STEM stations, made sure they had a Bingo card, and answered questions about the STEM program at Fall River. Students in the STEM student leadership group are 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. Their role in facilitating the arrival of families helped the night run smoothly.

If the STEM stations were full, families could participate in STEM Bingo to explore the STEM information and projects around the school, as well as interacting with each other. The Bingo cards served another purpose, as they provided a way to gather feedback on the Fall River STEM program and became an entry in a prize drawing!

Thank you to students, staff, and parents for making our 2nd Family STEM night a success! We look forward to seeing you next year.  Family STEM night was made possible in part by a Race to the Top grant from the US Department of Education.
