December 2014- Hour of Code

STEM School

The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. Anyone, anywhere can organize an Hour of Code event. Alpine is taking advantage of this organized effort and exposing all students PK-5 to a week of coding events.  From learning about why we code and how we use it, independent work time in classrooms on coding, and working in the STEM and Computer Labs with peers to code, students will be experimenting and exploring new technologies.  In last year’s Hour of Code Event, 57,000 events were scheduled in over 100 countries, and more than 15 MILLION school-aged children participated in coding activities. This event gives every student the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path. See more statistics on Code.org.
