8th graders Present at Colorado Department of Education ICAP Summit

STEM School

On December 3, 2014, hundreds of Colorado educators including counselors, teachers, principals, and superintendents convened in the grand ballroom of the Embassy Suites Conference Center in Loveland, Colorado to hear about the cutting edge work of schools and districts in the state toward helping students develop Individualized Career and Academic Plans (ICAPs). Timberline PK-8 was selected as one of only three schools to share their work and specific plan for implementing an ICAP program in the school. Twelve eighth graders spoke to the group about how Timberline's integrated Language Arts and career counseling program has helped them learn how their interests line up with particular career fields and how to create a personal and academic plan for reaching their future goals. According to Robin Russel, Graduation Guideline Manager for the Colorado Department of Education, Timberline's presentation was "the highlight of the show!" as well as "charming, thoughtful, and impressive.".
