Underwater Robotics Takes a Dive at Timberline PK-8

Mr. Sutyak is offering a new STEM elective this semester thanks to SeaPerch kits purchased using funds from the Race to the Top Grant. Students in this course have worked for weeks to design and build underwater vehicles, including measuring and cutting PVC pipes, soldering wires, and adding balance and flotation features. Class on February 20, 2015 was particularly exciting for Juan Mondragon and his partner as they prepared to test the underwater robotic vehicle they've designed in the water for the first time. The first test of their vehicles left students eager to make changes to their design to make them easier to control and drive in the water. Student groups are hoping to get their vehicles ready for underwater challenges at a nearby community pool later this spring.
