Third Grade Design Challenge-Trimester 1

Third grade students were involved in a challenge to determine ways to increase interest in reading.  Through the design thinking process, students were responsible for choosing new reading materials for the classroom.  They used various forms of data to help inform their decisions.  Students developed empathy about what their classmates needed or wanted, and learned how data can help discover information about classmates in school. They discovered how data displays help us understand information and realized the collection and use of data provides better understanding of people and our world.  Students presented their findings to the STEM coordinator, and were then able to order new reading materials to spice up reading in the classroom.
