The Longmont Youth Council recently sponsored a citywide contest looking for innovative and creative one-minute videos displaying how to positively take action and spread the word against vandalism. Six young ladies from Mrs. Thaler's STEM Broadcasting class at Trail Ridge Middle School entered the competition and came out on top, winning 1st place! The TRMS students were interviewed with Longmont Channel 8 TV news at the Youth Center on March 24th and received a $200 prize to share. Their video will also be aired on a future Channel 8 News cast.
Trail Ridge STEM Summer Academy is an interactive opportunity which includes classes such as FloViz, eTextiles, Pump It Up, Video Game Design, To Infinity...and Beyond, and more. Each course offers a student takeaway that are unique to the learning for that session.

We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and less students are studying it than a decade ago.
Last Friday, 7th and 8th grade students were compiled in the auditorium at Trail Ridge. All students were given a short presentation about the STEM Enrichment courses available to them in second semester. You can find the presentation here.
