Timberline PK8 had the privilege of hosting a Colorado Department Education (CDE) visit on Nov. 20, 2014. Teachers, principals, and superintendents from all over Colorado came to the school for a meeting about STEM instruction in Colorado and spent time touring our school and Skyline High School for a portion of their day. Our STEM Student Leadership Team students led tours to show all the wonderful activities and STEM projects that display proudly in our halls.
The 2014 Tech Fair was a big success for Columbine Elementary STEM. Students presented their work from STEM Leadership and MESA projects that included the topics: bullying, geology, affects of oil pollution on animals, Mars exploration, and communities. Columbine students received two "Big Byte" recognition awards for their excellent presentations and important topics. In addition, Azias received a scholarship to SVVSD and IBM's Innovation Academy for a Smarter Planet for his enthusiasm and in depth knowledge in his presentations.
Can you mimic a robot doing T'ai Chi? Kayla got the chance to practice her T'ai Chi skills with the Nao robot at the February STEM Student Advisory Board meeting at the Innovation Center. During the other half of the visit to Skyline High School, all three 5th Grade representatives had winning popsicle towers in the design challenge. Alyssa's group built the tallest, Jillian's held the most weight, and Kayla's had the best combination of weight and height.
