Students Partner with Longmont History Museum

3rd graders at Indian Peaks kicked off their Longmont History unit in a big way!  Classes partnered with the Longmont History Museum to engage in conversations and experiences around life in Longmont.  Students traveled through stations where they held antique tools and household items, worked creatively to create a new 3D town, and listened to stories about the past.

Students were able to gather empathy for workers by reenacting farm work in the fields.  They will later utilize their knowledge about workers in a design challenge about working conditions for young children.  Students will design a way to help child farmers, miners, and factory workers during the Great Depression.  The integrated unit will include support from various literary texts related to the lives of the pioneers throughout the Great Depression.  Students will compare and contrast the life of children during this era to how children live today.
