STEM Student Leadership

STEM student leadership at Fall River is in its second year. Students from 3rd, 4th and 5th grades meet together on a regular basis before school. Together, they engage in human- and community-centered activities, including gathering data about what students at Fall River think about STEM, researching and presenting composting and polinator garden plans, and working with new STEM materials as they brainstorm lesson ideas. The STEM student leadership is also leading the way in building empathy and determing what is important for the summer STEM program. Recently, students presented their brainstorm ideas for a name for our summer program. "STEMtastic Summer STEM" was chosen by the principal, Dr. Guthals. This group will continue to lead the way in making STEM visible to our Fall River community, thanks in part to a United States Department of Education Race to the Top grant.
