This Friday, students in the 4th grade will engage in playground redesign workshop sessions with the City of Longmont. The sessions will have students working in teams to design a preliminary prototype of a new and improved Affolter Park. City partners will lead sessions to discuss budget, safety criteria, maintenance, available space, and other considerations. The students have been collecting survey data from the entire school’s population over the past month, and will use this to help inform future decisions about the playground’s design. The workshop is an important step before a public hearing in November, where students will share their ideal playground iterations with their community. The 4th graders are excited and enthusiastic about contributing to this authentic, real-world design.
