Mini-Me's Appear in 7th Grade Math Class

Timberline 7th graders used their knowledge of fractions and ratios to design a scale model of themselves. For the first step of the project, partners helped measure the length and width of each other's limbs, head, and trunk. Individuals then converted the measurements using the scale of 6 inches = 0.25 inches. Once conversions were complete, each student made a scale drawing. Finally, each individual used available supplies such as clay, pipe cleaners, and popcicle sticks to design a 3D scale model. Carmen in Ms.Esquibel's class said, "It was challenging. We had to multiply fractions to fugure out the measurements." "I liked having fun creating things," added Jorge.
