Late Start Design Challenges

This year we are embarking on an innovative project related to our STEM focus.  Each classroom has paired up with a class in a different grade level as "buddies."  On our late start days, buddy classes will meet to focus on a character trait.  Students get to work on building community through 21st Century Skills such as collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, communication, and character, and problem-solving.  In September, our whole-school focus was on being trustworthy.  Students in grades K-5 worked together to come up with ideas on what being trustworthy looks like in action.  This was followed by a home-school connection piece that each student completed with a family member.  Next month, buddies will meet up again to focus on the critical skill of empathy.  We are excited to combine many of the strands of STEM by Design into our late start challenges.
