Kindergarten: A Raft for Tito the Ladybug

Kindergarteners spent January learning about objects that sink and float.  They explored which objects absorbed water and how objects behaved in water, too.  Their design challenge was to create a raft that would help "Tito the Ladybug" cross a puddle without getting his wings wet.  With a limited amount of supplies from the STEM Lab, groups brainstormed, prototyped, tested, improved, and retested their rafts to make sure they could keep Tito safe. After testing, students understood the importance of the materials they chose and whether or not they kept their raft level in the water for Tito.
