Engineering Week at Northridge

Stem School

Engineering Week was Feb 17-22.  At Northridge, we experienced engineering in the Olympics. Students viewed videos that discussed how science, technology, engineering and math play a large role in the Olympics, from creating tracks, equipment and clothing to helping individual athletes improve their speed and accuracy. Then, students were introduced to engineering manipulatives in order to start thinking about what engineering really is, and how it’s a part of their daily life. Students used everything from Legos to robotic cubes to explore new concepts, and see old concepts in a new light. Finally, students read about the different types of engineers and what each type does.  Students are beginning to understand that engineers do so much more for us than we ever thought.
