Design Challenge focuses on persistence

During the month of September, students in grades 2-5 were given a design challenge based in coding. The “unplugged” activity from focused on students being persistent and having a growth mindset. Students were challenged with creating a tower using a limited number of gumdrops and toothpicks. The tower had to be taller than a cup they were given and able to hold a book for at least 10 seconds. They were pushed to find ways to collaborate and learned that communication isn’t just talking, it’s listening as well. There were many failures, but quite a few successes as well. It was a great way to begin the school year as we can refer back to it as a reminder about being persistent.
