Today was fun day! We worked on building empathy and defining problems. Our design challenge today was about helping people with challenges transport themselves and their items. We found that there are many types of people that face challenges. We designed for people who are elderly, with injuries/illness, are handicapped, or are blind/deaf. We found stairs are big obstacles as well as maneuvering in and around stores and in/out of cars.
Our guest speaker today was Mr. Grant from RTD. He brought a bus and we got to go for a ride around the IBM campus! We also got to see the special features that the RTD bus has to help people with challenges. The wheelchair lift was very interesting and they even have chairs the fold up to make room for the wheelchairs.
Tomorrow we will take on redesigning transportation systems in Longmont!
