What a busy first day we had! This morning we welcomed our families with a quick breakfast and presentations from IBM, SVVSD and CU Teach. Julie Andrew and Mr. Mole shared some really exciting chemistry experiments with us and then we headed out to our classroom while parents took a tour of the IBM facilities.
Once we made it back to our classroom we did a quick introduction as a whole group. The children shared their elementary school and their favorite food with the group. This class loves pizza, peppers and sandwiches! We began looking at the designer mindsets as well as the Design Thinking Norms.
We also began to work within the Design Thinking Process. This includes Empathy, Defining a Problem, Ideating, Prototyping and Testing/ Feedback. We spent a lot of time looking at the concept of Empathy and designing with a user in mind. Most of our time together was spent ideating around summer and food. We began to map out the “food cycle” and we began to define problems that relate to food.
Tomorrow we have two field trips inside the IBM facility. And we will work on Design Challenge #1: Re-design a Partner’s Lunchbox!
