Cold Weather Makes Engineers

Stem School

During the cold days of January, students at Northridge Elementary were confined indoors for recess.  However, they worked hard to make the most of it.  Students in Mrs. Melanie Sapp's 1st/2nd grade combo class used the time to get acquainted with a new engineering manipulative-KEVA Blocks.  Students engaged in exploration, and spent time defining problems, finding solutions, prototyping and experimenting, and finally evaluating and improving upon their designs.  With these blocks, students learned about slopes, moveable structures, angles, stability, and showing proof of their accomplishments. The weather has since warmed up, but students are still asking for indoor recess days.
