When Longmont Colorado’s Skyline School District decided to renovate their high school facility, they also took the opportunity to substantially restructure its struggling academic program. Based on a plethora of recent educational research citing the efficacy of small schools and the importance of teaching students skills for success in the 21st century global economy, they decided to divide the 1,200 student school into two magnet academies, one focusing on Visual and Performing Arts, and the other focusing on STEM (Science, Technology, Math and Engineering).
