ALPINE KIDS GO TO WORLDS!

Stem School

Students at Alpine Elementary IB World School can enroll in the Vex IQ Robotics Club starting in 3rd grade.  Vex IQ is a robotics platform designed to transform STEM learning for young students and their teachers. Students can jump right in and snap robots together using this intuitive system. Educators utilize VEX IQ Curriculum to help teach valuable lessons and skills needed in today’s changing world (http://www.vexrobotics.com/vexiq?ref=hometile).

In school clubs, students meet several times a week to build, create, program and re-iterate their bots to complete the annual challenge, or game, created by the robotics company. Students must work with other teams to create an alliance on the competition field to complete different challenges during matches. This unique, collaborative nature of competition fosters many 21st century skills, including creativity, communication, and critical thinking, all while developing individual character and sportsmanship.

Teams can receive awards for different events. This year the Alpine Vex Robotics Club received six awards, qualifying 3 teams for the State Competition. From there, one of our teams, Team Anonymous, qualified to attend the WORLD COMPETITION!  This event is in Louisville, KY this coming April and our team of two girls and one boy can’t wait to go! Team Anonymous won two awards during the Competitive season.  The first was a STEM Research Award.  This award is presented to the team that develops and delivers an effective research presentation and demonstrates a significant depth of understanding of their research topic.  The Excellence Award, the highest ranking award, was their second award, qualifying them for the State Competition. The recipient of the Excellence Award is a team that exemplifies overall excellence in robotics. At the State Competition, they presented their STEM Research Project again, with some reiterations and improvement, earning them a trip to Worlds!  We couldn’t be more proud of Team Anonymous and all the teams that competed this season.  Go Team Alpine!
