Why Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Now?

Math and science are the keys to innovation. St. Vrain STEM Schools offer a highly rigorous, state-of-the-art STEM curriculum that is igniting a passion for rewarding careers, while providing students the skills to succeed in advanced education and a fast changing and highly competitive global economy.

STEM in St. Vrain Valley Schools

STEM Schools in St. Vrain Valley transform teaching and learning by providing students with engaging, real world learning experiences to emphasize connections between school, community and our global society. Students apply science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) concepts using 21st century skills and inquiry-based design thinking models to create innovative solutions to authentic problems enhancing post- secondary and career readiness.

STEM Defined by levels

Preschool STEM Education

  • Stimulate student interest in real-world learning through exploration and introduction to foundational STEM experiences
  • Begin introduction to role-models in STEM careers and fields
  • Provide a teaching and learning environment in which content and skills of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are integrated using the Colorado Academic Standards
  • Incorporate the design thinking process, a strategy for integrating problem solving into classrooms, schools, and the workplace
  • Provide STEM programming in a variety of settings, along with extended learning opportunities

Elementary STEM Education

  • Explore and introduce foundational STEM experiences that enhance student interest in real-world learning
  • Introduce students to a variety of STEM careers and fields
  • Provide a teaching and learning environment in which content and skills of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are integrated using the Colorado Academic Standards
  • Incorporate the design thinking process, a strategy for integrating problem solving, into classrooms, schools, and the workplace
  • Provide STEM programming in a variety of settings, along with extended learning opportunities

Middle School STEM Education

  • Introduce students to a variety of specialized STEM experiences and areas of STEM programming that encourages exploration in more depth
  • Increase awareness of STEM careers and fields and develop awareness of academic requirements for post-secondary opportunities
  • Provide a teaching and learning environment in which content and skills of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are integrated (using the standards outlined in each content area)
  • Incorporate the design thinking process, a strategy for integrating problem solving, into classrooms, schools, and the workplace
  • Provide STEM programming to all students in a variety of courses, along with extended learning opportunities

High School STEM Education

  • Provide students the opportunity to apply to a course selection of STEM classes, which outlines pathways to prepare students for successful post-secondary employment, education, or both
  • Focus on a challenging and rigorous academy experience where all areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) are incorporated into a STEM Education Plan
  • Offers courses and pathways for preparing students in STEM careers and fields
  • Provide a teaching and learning environment in which content and skills of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are integrated
  • Provide students with problem solving skills through the engineering design process, the set of steps that a designer takes to go from first, identifying a problem or need to, ultimately creating and developing a solution that solves the problem or meets the need
  • Connect In-school STEM experiences to out-of-school learning opportunities
