7th Graders Design Prosthetics

As part of their human body unit in science, 7th graders at Timberline learned about biomedical engineers and used empathy for those with physical disabilities to design a prosthetic arm or leg. Students worked with a partner to develop a prototype and test it for ability to bend and level of comfort when attached at the elbow or knee. Feedback from the test phase was used to change or enhance the design until the pair was satisfied with their final iteration. Damien from Ms. Clark's class said, "It was pretty fun! We got to build our own leg. The most challenging part was getting it on the person."
