2nd Grade Weather Design Challenge

The second graders were given a problem: How might someone that has an office with absolutely no windows to the outside be able to determine current and accurate weather conditions?  The class took it upon themselves to ideate and prototype ways to solve this problem using what they had learned in their FOSS Weather unit.  Multiple ideas surfaced including a periscope, an in-school television station, apps, helicopters, and weather lookout stations. Students had a chance to present their ideas for feedback. During small group sessions, it was impressive to see them giving each other critical feedback!  They were asking questions like, "Is that too expensive?", "What if the weather changes?", and "Do you mean ____?"

Four winning ideas were chosen based on feasibility, creativity, access to the problems' solution, and budget.
